Sherryll Coyne-Galbraith : Although Sherryll Coyne-Galbraith’s education was in the arts, she spent twelve years as an award winning television producer and host, before returning to painting full time. Her preferred medium is acrylic and the landscape as her subject matter. Sherryll was born in Alberta, Canada and raised on a working cattle ranch in the foothills of western Canada. Her paintings are strongly influenced by this land and the Canadian prairies. Through the board of judges, Sherryll was bestowed "active status", allowing her to exhibit in juried shows in the Federation of Canadian Artists. The Federation is a long established art society started by Lawren Harris, a member of the famous "Group of Seven". Sherryll has exhibited in Federation juried shows, private and public galleries, and her paintings hang in both private and corporate collections around the world.

Pam Sims Dalsin : I love tromping through the woods and fields, searching for the unexpected and unknown - a unique stone, a twisted limb, etc. I find such fascinating treasures in nature. Some objects arealmonst magical, with their history unknown. We can identify and find correlations in nature all around us. This is not only visual. There are verbal correlations, also. For instance, we talk about tree branches as "limbs" and the stalks as "trunks". Every part of nature goes through cycles and so do we. My painting, "The Golden Elder in Four Seasons" represents not only a tree in cycles, but is representative of our cycles, too. Our human attachment and identification with nature is ancient and is ingrained deeply within us. We can learn from and find comfort in aspects of nature that echo our own experiences. With this exhibition, I use simple, natural and organic imagery; and I work these commonplace objects in experimental ways. My drawing, "Limbs" is almost a found object. It became the impetus for further experimentation. Instead of working "on" the wood, I worked "within" it. It was a bit of a revelation for me. I found that after doing sculpture for the last 10 years, some of the sculpting techniques and methods can be incorporated into my drawings and paintings. As in nature, my past has become a composite of my present. This composite must be embraced, acknowledged and utilized in order to find new meanings for the future. As in nature, nothing is lost or destroyed; merely redefined and used to create new growth.

Elizabeth Dunn : Elizabeth Dunn attended the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary. She has taken seminars and workshops at Red Deer College, Brent Laycock Center, Joe Kershaw in Windermere, Helen Opie in Halifax and at the Christchurch College in Oxford,England. Elizabeth is involved with various Calgary Arts societies, was president for the Calgary Community Painters, on the Advisory Board of the Muttart Art Gallery and was president for many years of the Artpoint Society. She has shown her work in various solo and juried group exhibitions throughout Calgary, Banff and Moncton, N.B. Her work is found in numerous corporate and private collections. "I paint for the enjoyment of it. Many of my landscapes are of intimate locations of the Maritime Coast I have visited. I paint to share the energy, beauty and atmosphere of nature, rocks and trees and water. My favorites are fall colors in B.C and Alberta."

Give each clarity and meaning, each the weight of thine awareness, each it’s true and due fulfillment." - Thomas Mann My paintings are my attempt to connect to the heart and to the mind. I want to go beyond the physical and convey the inspiration and serenity I experience in my surroundings. I am drawn to the everyday. My goal is to create a sanctuary, a quiet place of contemplation. To share a tranquil spot with the viewer and offer an inviting place to "sit down" and rest, to create something beautiful out of the ordinary. There is beauty in every thing and I choose to translate this beauty to my painting by combining simplicity, light and vibrant colour through the use of opaque and transparent acrylic glazes. I draw with my brush, manipulating the subject to share the beauty of imperfection, creating soft, sculptural form. The foremost emotion I am attempting to convey is joy: it is all around us in forms we may not see or appreciate. A warm bed to crawl into, a comfortable chair to sit in, and a book that will take one to places never imagined. These are my simple pleasures. Dena Fuss : Dena Fuss is a member of the Leighton Foundation, the FCA and more recently The Point of Art. A few years ago she was chosen to take part in a juried exhibit at the Glenbow Museum in a special exhibit called Healing Legacies. Her artwork is bold and colourful and she enjoys architectural themes with lots of texture in them. Her repertoire of subject matter continues to expand and multiply. For the past few years Dena, along with her painting colleagues have painted whimsical designs on the windows in Emily’s Backyard nursery at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Patrick Grassi : When I eventually decided to get serious about art, I began working in watercolour on paper because I liked the spontaneity and unpredictability of the medium. Most of my work at this time was small scale landscapes or traditional still lifes, with some drawing and a raft of watercolour collage along the way. After a couple of years I shifted over to acrylics and started doing larger landscapes and cloudscapes, and most recently I have been doing mainly non-figurative collage pieces. Drawing and painting the figure has always been an interest, and lately that has manifested itself in a group of paintings (the Defying Gravity) series, depicting people in various acts of projecting themselves through the air. I love how acrylics have the characteristics of both watercolours and oils-- with a vividness and depth that is nearly impossible to achieve in watercolour, and a speed of application that oils can’t touch. Painting for me is like a visual conversation where my own ideas interact continuously with what actually appears on the surface of the work. While I usually start with a subject or reference in mind, the painting itself usually takes over pretty quickly and often I end up with results that are unanticipated and delightful (at least to me). It’s a constant interaction between what’s in my head and what’s before my eyes. I don’t subscribe to any particular school or artistic “ism”. I figure all periods and all aesthetic movements have something to offer, but I do have a couple of ideas about where I want to go with my work. First of all, I want to produce work where the viewer can continue to interact with the painting over time- so I want to produce work that is, in at least one sense, open and incomplete. I try to arrange things so the viewer can continue to find new things in the work and can continue to read in new interpretations and insights. And secondly, I want to end up with work that can actually hang somewhere. Somebody has to like it enough to buy it and take it home. So I’m not particularly interested in shocking the viewer, outraging them, or attacking their political sensitivities. There’s already enough horror and ugliness in the world, and I don’t see much value in adding to that quantity of misery. I’d rather try to make things that are interesting, intriguing and beautiful. You get to judge how successful I’ve been.

Koos de Jongh : Koos de Jongh, born in 1955 at Rotterdam, The Netherlands, is a self-taught artist. His primary work consists of painting with acrylics; however, he is also passionate of working on sculptures. During his successful business career working as a project manager for several companies, Koos became an avid art lover. Especially capturing his attention were sculptures and paintings. Although Koos has no preferential style of sculpture or painting, he does prefer the modern versus the old school artist vision. Koos is, however, appreciative of all dimensions as long as the artists can surprise him with their refreshing ideas. Koos started to create his own art in 2005. He began his career working with soapstone, making sculptures. Two years later, he directed himself to canvas, using acrylics and mixed mediums to create his paintings. For the mixed mediums, Koos uses everything he can find, but makes sure the mixed mediums are never dominant in his work. The paintings he creates are abstract, often related to nature and are mostly very colourful in scope. As a rule, Koos maintains that his work must be intriguing, thus enticing the spectator to stop and have a second viewing, as they pass by the art object. Even though Koos was born and raised in the Netherlands, in 2009 he decided to move to Canada where he now resides and works in Calgary, Alberta. Elizabeth Laishley : While living and studying art in Europe, my early appreciation of art was heavily influenced by the European Expressionism, mainly by the group of "Der Blaue Reiter" which included such great artists as: Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriele Mueter, August Macke, Paul Klee and Max Beckman. After emigrating to Canada, the Group of Seven and Emily Carr bacame an influence in interpreting the Canadian Landscape, together with the literary inspiration by Canadian Poetry. My landscapes reflect my love of the outdoors and are mostly painted and conceived while travelling and camping. I aim to give life to nature by the use of primary colours, breaking the landscape into colour and shapes, while keeping from becoming abstract by adding realistic images. Nicole LeBoutillier : My drawings are a record of the places where I have lived. I choose subjects that are physically close by and unique to the environment. I consider the line to be the most important aspect of my drawings and the color to be secondary, yet complementary. Through observation and spending time studying the subject, I discover details that are often overlooked. While most of my work is compiled indoors, I alternate between working on location making sketches and taking photographs to use later in the studio. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. Over the past ten years I have lived as an expatriate in Angola, Kuwait, Malaysia and Libya. Natasha Lesage : Having always loved art and studied art history throughout school I entered the Graphic Design program in 1992 at Dawson College in Montreal, Quebec and graduated in 1995. I then worked for a major Canadian retailer in Marketing doing internal/external publications, advertising, signage, packaging and promotional design. I left Canada in 1997 and traveled with my husband for over 10 years for his work mostly around the United States including such places as Texas, Connecticut, Boston, Vermont, New Jersey and Chicago. Unable to work in the United States, my life as an unexpected housewife began. My need to have a creative outlet was overpowering, so I began to paint. My work reflects my graphic background as seen by my use of patterning and controlled images. My love of textiles is apparent. Having vacationed in such wonderful places as South America and the Caribbean, I was very influenced by the use of color found in the local architecture and in nature. The most colorful of influences I found in the local women and their dress. My first unveiling of my paintings took place August 2009 at the 6th Annual Unseen Artists Exhibit at Artpoint Gallery and Studios.

Kathy Lycka : I received my formal training from the Alberta College of Art & Design earning a Bachelor of Design with a focus on illustration in 2001. Since graduation I have worked as a graphic designer for a variety of large national and international corporates; such as HSBC Investments UK, EnCana, ATCO Group and WestJet. After living in London, England during 2005 and 2006 I rediscovered my love for painting and have not been able to ignore my desire to create artwork for very long. My most recent work is a pure, unrestrained exploration of texture and colour that exploits every type of medium within my reach. These images include, but are not limited to: watercolour, acrylic, charcoal, conte, pastels, collage, pen and ink and at times even glass. To me, they represent the definition of mixed medium to its fullest. I’ve always been amazed by the beauty found in nature - the assortment of gradients, diversity of colours and the simple shift in tones depending on where the sun is in the sky. I’ve drawn from this charm as inspiration for my current series of work. These paintings are my emotional and visual tribute to the brilliance, power and intensity of Mother Earth. Karen Makowski : I reside in Calgary, Alberta with my family and am a frequent visitor to the mountains to the west of us, and the Crowsnest Pass area to the south. An avid hiker and explorer of gardens, I try to capture my love and unique view of the outdoors through the lens of a camera. I translate a moment of time for a viewer to explore at their leisure. I love painting with acrylics; you have ultimate control over this medium. It is possible to paint thick or thin and add texture all in the same work. I also enjoy using any kind of implement with which to apply paint, such as scrapers, knives, razor blades and fingers. My paintings vacillate between tightly constructed to fairly abstract. I always hope for viewers to connect with my art on some level - a memory, an emotion, a familiar place. Mostly self-taught, I participated in several art workshops and enjoy working with and learning from fellow artists. I currently show with Art Horizons and Calyx Distinctive Arts in Calgary. I am an associate member (former full member) with Riverview Art Group, and a former member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. I instruct grisaille workshops at the Calgary School of Art. Maria Paz-Scott : Maria-Paz was born in Santiago, Chile in 1971. She moved to Toronto in 1985. In August of 2003, she moved to Calgary where she found her passion for art. Ross Snashall : Ross Snashall is a Calgary based artist who has been selling artwork throughout galleries in Western Canada since 1998. His canvas work has been displayed in galleries in Calgary, Edmonton, Cochrane, Lacombe and Winnipeg. Ross has had numerous shows with other professional artists. He displays his work in offices, restaurants, and private collections throughout Canada. Art Sales have reached many parts of the world including Iceland, Australia and several locations in the United States. Having studied art and art history in my youth I again found time and inspiration in my middle years. I have studied acrylics, encaustics and watercolour with a many professional artists in Calgary, but it is for oils that I have found my passion. Bill Willemsen : Bill Willemsen is a self taught artist. Born in the Netherlands, his work consists of water colors and acrylics. He used to paint in oils, but ended his hobby to work full time to provide for his family. Seventeen years ago, he rediscovered his love of painting and decided to try his hand at watercolors and more recently, acrylics. Klaus Zimmermann : Klaus was born in Hamburg, Germany. His talent for drawing was evident at an early age. He was awarded top student honors for his many artistic contributions during his school years. At the Art Akademie Landes Kunstschule, Hamburg, well-known artist and instructor, Lothar Walter encouraged Klaus in his natural ability to use pencil and charcoal to create perfect perception and depth to a point where black and grey become colour. To this day, six of Klaus charcoal drawings are in possession of the Akademies museum. Along with another well-known artist - Anthony Miles - Klaus painted the Theme Wall Mural for the World Fair, Man and His World, in Montreal in 1967. Artistic contributions of a different kind include backdrops, stage and set design and construction for various performing groups. Klaus love for drawing and painting never died and his works have become more and more popular with private collectors and galleries. Recent fresco castings by Klaus represent the artists exploration into organic/fossil matter and form through texture and colour. Klaus photographs scenic landscapes and then paints from his photographs. He magically alters the palette and sometimes the composition. He imbues the landscape with an artistic sense of balance.
